Urban Groovers forms representative body and Zimbabwe Urban Grooves Awards (ZUGA) in pipeline

The local Urban Grooves genre recently formed its own representative body, the Urban Grooves Association (UGA), is billed to hold its maiden awards, the Zimbabwean Urban Grooves Awards (ZUGA) by yearend, confirmed an official.

According to The Zimbabwean, the awards will honour the works of artistes who unleashed their projects between November 30, 2009 and November 30, 2010, though the official date to commemorate the first ever ZUGA awards have not been set.

UGA co-Public Relations Officer, Rufaro Cindy Munyavi, popularly known as Cindy in musical circles, confirmed the developments but could not be drawn to make further comments.
"Yes, the awards are on the cards, but I can not give details at the moment until everything falls into place."
The other co-PR officer, Joe Machingura, could not be reached for comment. However, sources in UGA structures told The Zimbabwean that plans for the ceremony were in full flow.
"The guys here (UGA top executive) are busy pulling strings. The awards are up in December though the official date and number of categories have not been finalized. A team of adjudicators with a strong musical background will be set to select the nomination and winners,"
said the official. According to the source, of the categories slotted so far are: Urban Grooves Song, Album, Artist and Producer of the Year are some of the top categories to be contested.
