Eclipsed will go down in History as being the first Broadway play to be written by, directed by, produced by and starring black women. This play also marks as Zimbabwean Hollywood-based Danai Gurira's Broadway debut as a dramatist/ playwright in New York City.

Danai Gurira wrote the play soon after finishing her studies at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned her Master’s of Fine Arts. She has starred on Broadway before in the August Wilson play Joe Turner’s Come And Gone and is most notably known for her acting role in the AMC series titled The Walking Dead and will also play Afeni Shakur’s role in Tupac’s upcoming Biopic titled All Eyes On Me

Eclipsed was sold out during its run at New York City’s Public Theater last fall, and stars Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o joined by an ensemble of fierce theatre thespians, including Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and Saycon Sengbloh.

Gurira also has a new play titled Familiar, also playing this season in New York City.
