Nutty O and Poptain

The third edition of the Star FM Listeners Choice Awards will be held on the 13th of March 2021. According to the awards site some of the objectives of the award show are “to promote musicians and music industry practitioners and to recognise the accomplishments in the Zimbabwean music industry”. The virtual edition of the show is being run under the theme #RespectTheHustle. According to Herald, the head of Programming at Star FM, Steve Vickers had this say about the themed hashtag— “it was a tough year, but so much good music was released, and we saw artistes embracing the new normal through online shows and continuing to record music. “






The 2020 edition of the Star FM awards saw Ishan walking away with 5 wins on the night. This year the chess pieces have shifted and Poptain is leading the pack with 7 nominations followed by his genre-mate Nutty O with 6 nominations. Jah Master is also part of the conversation with 4 nominations. The “Snapchat King” Mark Ngwazi is also nominated for best Sungura.  


This 2021 edition of the Star Fm awards will be decided through public voting on social media platforms. Some of the guidelines for the submissions of these awards entailed thats the songs, recordings or albums had to be have been released between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2020. Submissions for the awards ended on the 18th of February. Check out the full list of nominees below;
