MaCartoonz brings together Zimdancehall and Zimhiphop in what is set to be one of the best collaborations of 2021. Pumacol and Stunner perfectly complement each other in rhythm, flow and lyricism. The song absolutely captures the groove/party vibe and it's a mix of Dancehall, and Hip-hop along with hints of Afrobeats. And for me, it's how Pumacol delivers the chorus that elevates the song to hit status. After the first, I was already bumping my head to the beat and singing, "Macartoonz iwaya" at the top of my voice.
For an artist many have started considering as faded, Stunner delivers a verse that makes him seem like he's at the height of his artistic powers. The song takes me back to other collaborations of the 2 genres (Zimdancehall & Zimhiphop) like "Chibhodhoro" where Stunner collaborated with Shinsoman. As far as collaborations go in 2021 I'm yet to hear something better. I was reluctant to dive into Stunner's last album "Handina Defeat" but I'm now I'm convinced it's worth listening to.
The song production is credited to Trinnie Beats, who deserves an ovation for his work. The change in beat dynamic on Stunner's verse and the tempo and rhythm of the instrumental are out of this world. It's not a song set to spark conversations but it's for the vibes and it's full of them.
