Regererai "Regé-Jean" Page Will Not Be Returning To Bridgerton Season 3, Could Be The Next James Bond 007

Netflix's Bridgerton season 3 will not see the return of British-Zimbabwean actor Regererai "Regé-Jean" Gamuchirai JA Matongo-Page's character Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings.

As fans of Netflix's Regency-era hit will recall, Page was a breakout star from season 1, but he'd only joined the cast in a short-term capacity, allowing him to move on to projects like The Gray Man and Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.

After being spotted out in Milan with former co-star Jonathan Bailey though, rumours began to materialize about Page's potential reappearance in Bridgerton.

Page quickly put these rumours to bed on Instagram, writing: "The boys are back in town. [heart emoji] (No, I'm not going back to the show btw – the papers made that one up.) "But we had the best, and most stylish, catch-up I've had in a while over some truly excellent Italian coffee and sunshine."

Regé-Jean Page spent his childhood in Harare, Zimbabwe, before returning to London for secondary school.

Is Regé-Jean Page the next James Bond 007?

Regé-Jean Page has been the favourite in the Bond odds for months. It comes as ex-James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and Bridgerton co-star Ruby Barker publicly backed Page for the role.

William Hill has made him the odds-on favourite at 9-4 to play Bond in an upcoming reboot of the franchise.

The 34-year-old British-Zimbabwean actor has beaten former frontrunners Henry Cavill and Idris Elba to claim the top spot in the race to be the next 007.

No Time To Die created a vacuum in the James Bond mythos after Daniel Craig stepped down from playing the iconic British spy. Now, all eyes are on who will take over from the 54-year-old.

The official announcement of the next James Bond will likely come by the end of the year.
