Sha Sha is finally here with her long-awaited debut album, I'M ALIVE! The project which follows Sha Sha's last full release, the EP Blossom, presents a much bolder image of the artist as Sha Sha not only explores more variations of the Amapiano sound but she delves into Afrobeats and RnB.

Sha Sha

‘I’m Alive’ is nothing short of a proclamation by Sha Sha on her musical eclecticism and wide-ranging music gifts – from songwriting to performing. It is also a statement of her own power. There had to be certain things within myself that had to happen so I could come alive. It’s more like a rebirth, self-reflection and healing. - Sha Sha to Music in Africa

The album which has 13 tracks, features a variety of artists from across several genres including Visca, Mdoovar, Bheki, Musa keys, Dj Maphorisa, Focalistic, Kabza De Small, Mellow & Sleazy, Mas Musiq, Soa Mattrix, Herc Cut The Lights, Laud, Ami Faku, Blxckie, Rowlene and A-Reece and was executive produced by Sha Sha herself, alongside Herc Cut The Lights.

I think every single one of them brought a special contribution to my project. I am very proud of us as a team and the music we have created. I think there are some great and exciting surprises on the album, people will discover the diversity of the music we have created. - Sha Sha to Music in Africa

It has been a long journey from the album's inception to its completion. We were initially expecting it last year when plans seemed to change and then Sha Sha went through a turbulent time, that saw her take a break from social media and change her management among other things, and she describes the album as a journey of discovering a new version of herself which mirrors the journey and changes which she went through in her own life.

This album was a healing process for me, I don't want to prescribe too much to people, but I think the healing and love message will come through clearly. The title I'm Alive is not a morbid one. It is a journey of letting go of a version of me and welcoming the new one. It is about low frequencies around me and inside of me that had to come to an end for a new version of me to come alive. I am a very spiritual person so in this journey the relationship with God is central. - Sha Sha to Music in Africa

The album was preceded by the singles Ungowami and Themba Lami, which came out a few months ago and were well received, lifting even higher the expectations of her debut album.

I want them to let themselves go and get lost in the music. To take whatever they want from it and maybe in a way it will assist them to tell their stories too. It’s a vibe, it speaks for our culture, especially if you listen to the language used. The production and instruments are their own thing, and it shows a different side of Africa. The majority of it is African with a modern twist. I see it becoming very big as it goes on and threads itself into the international music scene. - Sha Sha to Music in Africa
