Chido Dzinotyiwei's Vambo AI selected for Google for Startups

Vambo AI, a startup co-founded by Chido Dzinotyiwei, has been selected for the 10th cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa.

Chosen from nearly 2,600 applicants, Chido is a part of a group of leading innovators who are leveraging AI to tackle critical challenges in fintech, agritech, and health tech.

Vambo AI is dedicated to the preservation of Africa’s indigenous languages and has been at the frontlines of African artificial intelligence.

The platform supports translation, transcription, content generation, and intelligent search across over 44 African and 20 global languages.

The amount of hard work and sacrifice that has happened between this picture (above) from 2023 and this Google for Startups milestone deserves its own book. Here’s to getting in! And after the 5th attempt because we keep trying until it works out. I am so grateful. - Chido Dzinotyiwei

Vambo AI was selected alongside Anda Africa (Angola); a mobility and fintech platform formalizing, financing, and electrifying Angola’s informal moto-taxi workforce through proprietary AI-powered credit scoring, Bani (Nigeria); cross-border payments infrastructure platform eliminating settlement delays for African businesses trading globally, and Coamana (Kenya); a platform that helps governments and market associations digitize informal food markets among several other startups.

Since its introduction in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program has worked with 106 startups from 17 African countries, and to date, our alumni have collectively raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 jobs.
