Released at varied intervals, the "10 Zimbabwean Afro house Tracks for your Playlist" serves to introduce people to new music in the genre, highlight trending tracks, alongside putting gems people might have missed in the spotlight. Here are the 10 songs for our second edition:
Kumba x HALU! & Skai
A central pulse to the Eyethu EP, "Kumba" is a spiritual and sonic exploration of identity, memory, and return. Rooted in Afro-house rhythms and layered with rich vocals, it has ancestral echoes and futuristic soundscapes.
"Abalele" is a love song that fuses together high intensity Afro house soundscapes with soulful vocals. Riddled with infectious grooves it has a progressive texture that makes it perfect for the dance floor. While Josh Major and GhostZWE are longtime collaborators, this is the first time that either has worked with MJ Sings, who excels on the vocals.
Susan x Verseless & Panasher
"Susan" puts an Afro house spin on the age old Shona childhood game "Susan waikanga nyama kapoto kachitenderera." It is infectious and characterised by grooves perfect to the dance floor, similar to the energy the game is approached with by young kids.
Lelah x Bun Xapa, Emmanuel Jal & Murphy Cubic
“Lelah” is a powerful statement of intent: a call to make your dreams a reality. The record brings together the unmistakable energy of Emmanuel Jal, Bun Xapa, and Murphy Cubic, each fusing their signature Afro house sound into a fluid and emotive production. This landmark collaboration unites Obsidian Records and Afroholic Records, delivering a release that celebrates unity, rhythm, and purpose on the global dance floor.
Mwenje x Tashinga, Argento Dust & T!MBO
This lively collaboration brings together rising Zimbabwean Afro house DJ/producer Tashinga, celebrated South African producer Argento Dust and genre-bending vocalist T!mbo. The single was the first official release from the In The Black Studio Camp, held in Cape Town that brought together some of the region’s most exciting emerging and established voices.
Come To Me (My Love) x Charisse C, Khandasi & TAPIWA
Continuing to build the legacy of her Abantu recording camps, Charisse C enlisted Kenyan vocalist Khandasi and Zimbabwean producer TAPIWA for the single "Come To Me (My Love)." Layered in production, with a percussive rhythm and softly sung lyrics, "Come To Me" has ambient textures that build tension and release it at just the right points. The enveloping Afro house record calls out to love, and lands ahead of an anticipated 'Abantu Means People 2.0' EP on the horizon.
Mwari x MJ Sings, Choujaa & Ziddo
Mwari is a plea to God for divine intervention that centres cultural detail. It brings together Zimbabwe, Morocco and South Africa, with Choujaa and Ziddo keepinh the production centered on percussion, movement, and melodic restraint, and MJ Sings bringing the kind of vocal presence that can connect in a club setting without losing the meaning behind the words.
Asibe Mnandi x Murphy Cubic & MJ Sings
Asibe Mnandi" translates to "let's have a good time" and that is exactly the sentiment captured by the song. It is catchy, progressive and features a beat drop that is instantly endearing on the first listen. The track was Afroholic Records second ever release and it was one that was well received across the world.
Take Over Control [Nitefreak Remix] x Afrojack, Eva Simons & Nitefreak
Originally released by Afrojack featuring Eva Simons, the track became one of the defining crossover dance records of its era. Nitefreak now reframes that legacy through his own distinct Afro prgressive house lens, transforming the original into a hypnotic, percussion-driven club cut designed for modern dancefloors. The producer described the remix as a childhood dream come true.
Bvuma x Bantu
"Bvuma" is an Afro house spin on a classic Zimbabwean song. Tuku's vocals are laid over a percussive instrumental with xylophonic chimes and the end result is brilliant. This track is a few years old but one that remains evergreen.
