Tendaiishe Chitima's Second Bloom walked away with 2 awards at the 2026 edition of Durban FilmMart, Africa's premier film financing and co-production market.
The short film received The Wrapped App Award - a 3 month subscription to the Wrapped app worth over R30,000, and the NEWF Summit Attendance Award - a fully funded trip to the NEWF Summit.
Chitima was also part of the 2026 cohort of Talents Durban, a 6 week intensive programme for filmmakers that runs during the Durban Filmmart.
Second Bloom initially started as a concept for the British Council's catalyst research project in 2025 before developing into a Sci-Fi short film. It is the filmmaker's directorial debut.
Chitima has made a name for herself in front of the camera with roles in the short films Jayson’s Hope, Evelyn and Tapiwa, the TV shows Mutual Friends, Isidingo, and the feature films Cook Off (the first Zimbabwean film to be on Netflix), Gonarezhou: The Movie and Hollywood production G20.
