Petition Started to Rename New York Street After A Late Zimbabwean Rapper

Just this past Monday, a petition was launched to get a street in New York named “KMD-MF DOOM Way” in honor of the late Zimbabwean rapper and producer, MF DOOM
An Instagram post written by MF DOOM’s wife, Jasmine Dumile confirmed his untimely death that occurred on October 31, 2020.

"I am writing on behalf of the KMD-MF DOOM Way Committee. We are requesting that the City of Long Beach rename East Hudson Street's block between Riverside Boulevard and Long Beach Road “KMD-MF DOOM Way" Reads part of the petition.

Born Daniel Dumile in 1971, to a Xhosa Zimbabwean father, who was a teacher, and a British mother (by birth). MF DOOM grew up in Long Beach, New York.

Last month, Billboard reported that on-demand streams of MF DOOM’s music had risen by 870 percent following his death. There was also a 2,879 percent increase in purchased song downloads that same week, compared to the previous five-day span.
