Tapz Gallantino, real name Tapiwa Mutingwende was born on the 19th of October 1995. He first started making music at age 15 and realized it was something he could take seriously when Auckland’s Red Bull Studios called 2 years later. He released his first project Forest under the name Young Tapz shortly after.

Off the back of Forest, TAPZ linked up with Aussie Electronic duo Hermitude on their tracks Through the Roof and The Buzz. In 2016, It was announced that Tapz Gallantino had signed a US management deal with Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music.

Tapz Gallantino left Zimbabwe with his parents at the age of 8. "My parents just kind of thought the country was going downhill and if we didn't move any sooner it would have been way harder to move and who knows, I may not be Young Tapz today. When I moved to New Zealand, it was so crazy because there were so many white people and I wasn't used to that [laughs]. I was like 'whoa, this is crazy man'. It was like TV in real life." He said in an interview with Complex

Tapz Gallantino has since toured with the likes of G-Eazy, A$AP Ferg, and Hermitude, and has collaborated with a variety of artists, including producer Branchez and indie rock band No Wyld. He won MTV Europe Music Awards for best New Zealand act in November 2017 and plans to come back home. "I want to go back to Zimbabwe to build more than just a movement. I wasn’t raised in the city like most Zimbabweans that migrated. I was a rural kid raised in Wedza, Google that place, and you gon’ see. Said the Rapper in an interview with Hypebeast.

"There weren’t any computers or anything like that there. I want to build schools and help the people there. Music is just the start for me, it’s my voice and as I get bigger it’s gonna get louder. I will shout everything they denied to listen to, they will hear us, this is bigger than me. Just make sure you’re ready before the storm comes. It’s coming." he continued
