Life after Samanyanga – SaintFloew drops Cheka

Talented. Not disputable. The rise of Tawanda Mambo otherwise known as SaintFloew is exciting to witness. But for those who had the privilege to cross paths with this young man; it’s a thing of dreams coming true right in front of you!

Speaking in an interview with Chamvary on Power FM, Santa confirmed that with Holy Ten it had been a thing of ‘real recognizing real from a distance.’ This arrested all the fears of a talented artist falling prey to manipulation by a fellow artist – a common narrative in the sometimes hostile music industry. He did not sign a contract with the Samanyanga stable but says it was a partnership.

Cheka drops at a time Saint Floew is establishing a sound that bridges hip hop and dancehall. This author subscribes to the view that hip hop is not replacing ZimDancehall. And hates the idea of calling everything Afro-fusion. These genres are at a point where they can sonically co-exist and SaintFloew is an actual realization of the notion. He has drawn comparisons and likeliness with the late Soul Jah Love, Dobba Don and even Tocky Vibes but he remains hip hop as ever. As hardcore as you want it.

The video for Cheka is a fair portrayal of gang life which cannot be separated from of course drinking habits. He unapologetically continues a run of anti-sober artistry to which a degree of popularity was cemented. Saint Floew is a favourite.
