Rutendo Mugadza shortlisted for Female Innovator of the Year Award at the 2022 Africa Tech Festival

Zimbabwean Entrepreneur and Lawyer Rutendo Mugadza-Mugwagwa has been shortlisted for the Female Innovator of the Year award at the 15th edition of Africa Tech Festival Awards (AFRICACOM) 2022 - an initiative by Africa Tech Festival to acknowledge Africa’s greatest telecoms and technology contributors. 

This award will recognize the outstanding achievements of women playing a crucial role in African technology and telecommunications. Rutendo was nominated along with other Tech-trailblazers from Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia. The winner will be unveiled at a glittering event taking place in Cape Town’s prestigious Waterfront on Wednesday 9 November. 

Rutendo Mugadza-Mugwagwa is the Founder and CEO of Zimbabwe Innovation & Legal-Tech Association, a consortium established to inform and educate lawyers about the unique legal issues arising from the evolution, production, marketing, acquisition, data usage and communications technology whilst enhancing collaboration between law firms, technology companies and communities. "As the CEO of Zimbabwe Innovation and Legal-Tech Association, it is a great honour to be identified and acknowledged for the efforts I am trying to achieve through the use and implementation of Technology," she says.

Rutendo is a registered legal practitioner who specializes in trademarks, patents and copyright registration, she is also an expert in the drafting of intellectual property policies. She extensively focuses on training and educating SMEs, government parastatals and corporate companies on intellectual property. "Most Law students when they graduate, aim to get into private practice, government or corporate and yet not everyone can get that opportunity. Therefore one of the biggest goals of the Association is to educate them on Alternatives to the traditional law career. Technology is an enabler which is why we should embrace it. Being nominated on a regional level is by far one of my greatest achievements thus far this year." Says Rutendo Mugadza-Mugwagwa, in a statement to Greedysouth. 

The Africa Tech Festival Awards is a segment of the annual Africa Tech Festival - a meeting place of Africa’s largest community of tech champions that connects business leaders, tech experts, policymakers, and investors, all at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation. 

The festival is now in its 25th year running whilst the Africa Tech Festival Awards will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year. Africa Tech Festival will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 7 – 10 November 2023.

  • Chineme Onuoha Areola is the GM for Local & International Business Development at Broadbased Communications Ltd.
