Mukuru is among 2023 best companies to work for in South Africa, according to LinkedIn

On Wednesday, LinkedIn released its annual Top Companies list identifying the 25 best places in South Africa for professionals to grow their careers. Financial services firm Mukuru ranked No. 6 on the list whose top five companies were Absa Group Ranked First, followed by EY, FNB, KPMG and Sasol which was ranked 5th. 

The research by the social media company is backed by unique LinkedIn data measuring different elements of career progression.

Mukuru a fully-fledged Fintech business that gives emerging consumer access to affordable and reliable financial services was founded by Zimbabwe-born, UK-based Entrepreneur Rob Burrell in 2004 as a simple platform that allowed users based in London to buy international talk time vouchers, confirmed by text message; to connect with family in Zimbabwe which was not possible at the time to dial into or out of Zimbabwe. In 2009, Mukuru pivoted its platform to enable migrant workers to send USD from the UK and EU to their families in Zimbabwe.

The Mukuru business in South Africa was formed in 2010 from a joint venture with Inter-Africa Bureau de Change.
