Wolf Of Samora: Ulenni Okandlovu's celebration of a bubbling subculture

Wolves are often defined by their dedication to the pack (family), and their fierce loyalty. When one howls in the night, they are always answering calls. An unwritten law. A long binding social contract.

While far removed from the wolf in dna, all these traits define Ulenni Okandlovu, and fuel the creative drive at the heart of his latest EP, Wolf of Samora. A collaborative project with Liberaxe that explores soundscapes both foreign and familiar.

The title draws inspiration from Dr Pachanga, a fashionista from Congo/SA who once captioned himself the Wolf of Jeppestown. However everything else about the project is rooted in the Zimbabwean creative space. Wolf of Samora is the story of Ulenni and the creatives that surround him.

Ulenni Okandlovu

As a creative who wears many different hats, Ulenni Okandlovu leads a pack of tastemakers, innovators, and forward thinkers - a community that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of Zimbabwe's urban culture.

This community consists of fashionistas, street artists and musicians who do not identify themselves as belonging to either the north or south of Samora; the two sides of the country's social divide.

They consider themselves neutrals and are the driving force behind the capital city of Harare

Across 4 tracks, Ulenni offers up a celebration of this cultural movement. The tracks spotlight and mention names & brands of members of the community, while the visuals also feature a number of community members; most of them seen at the Fabrik Party, CBD Market & Dtwn Conversations.

Wolf of Samora is an ode to the creative spirit of the Zimbabwean youth and it's lyricism and sound are fuelled by defying the norm. Resoundingly hip hop in nature, it still somehow dances to it's own tune. A reminder for us to be ourselves.

The EP is available across all major streaming platforms.
