Zimbabwean DJ/producer, Nitefreak, has joined forces with Frigid Armadillo, Idris Elba & Nes Mburu for the cross continental collaboration "Maithori." A meeting of Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Sierra Leone, that showcases the interconnection of the African continent.
Sung in Kenya’s native language of Kikuyu, Maithori, translates to “tears," and according to Nitefreak the general meaning of the song is "always heed to advice, tables turn and sometimes your friends can turn into your enemies."
While poignant in subject matter, "Maithori" is still laden with pulsating synths, soulful vocals and crescendos destined to elevate audiences into a state of euphoria. Contained in it are all elements we've come to know and love about Afro house.
"This was a easy project as Frigid and Nes had done most of the foundation. Idris and I had to refine it and structure it to a solid record," Nitefreak shared about how the collaboration came together.
From his first days creating music in the 2010s, to the release of his breakout hit "Premier Gaou - Nitefreak Remix" and now "Maithori," Nitefreak has refined a sound that has not only captured the house audience but crossed over.
"There's now maturity in the production and more depth into the music," he reflected on his growth.
In March of this year, the DJ launched his own record label, Afroholic Records and in that same month it had it's first release, the long awaited "Masterclass" featuring Roland Clark. He had the international debut of his house event, Hinde, at Miami Music Week.
"Maithori" is now available across all major streaming platforms.
