The NAMA Awards are set to introduce a fashion category for 2026 edition of the award show. This comes after over a year of consultations with stakeholders that began in 2024 and are still ongoing.
The NACZ (National Arts Council of Zimbabwe) initially engaged 12 fashion houses and industry associations on fashion's inclusion into the awards platform and the insights from this set the stage for formal inclusion.
"Fashion serves as a powerful form of artistic expression, intertwining creativity, culture and entrepreneurship. By recognising fashion within NAMA, NACZ aims to elevate this discipline and reinforce the vital role of designers and stylists in Zimbabwe’s cultural narrative," shared NACZ Chief Executive, Napoleon Nyanhi, in an interview with The Herald.
The NACZ, are in the process of drafting guidelines and nomination protocols in partnership with fashion stakeholders. Additionally the fashion category will have a dedicated steering committee to oversee it's implementation.
Over the past year, the NAMA Awards have been going through a restructuring that has seen the introduction of new honours and the renaming of others. The award platform is also set to have new event managers, Scarlet Studios in partnership with Events Evolution, from 2026 onwards.
