Sane delivers enchanting melodies with the somber "Mazvokuda"

When Sane Wav broke onto the scene, it was on the back of the release of "Bhimu." A single that introduced us to his signature bounce, brought to life by his cadence and delivery, alongside the production of his alter ego Usadaro.

The song had been teased for over 6 months, with snippets floating all across the internet, and yet its release was all the more impactful. It seemed like madness, yet there was a method to how Sane builds up to a release.

Fast forward 12 months from "Bhimu," and that same recipe is at the heart of what could be his best song ever.

Teased to the point of agitation, "Mazvokuda" is a heartfelt anthem that sees Sane introspective and reflecting on the state of his life. It earns its name from the Shona proverb, "Mazvokuda mavanga enyora," meaning that some scars are self desired.

"Mazvokuda" is littered with pop sensibilities and has enchanting melodies at its heart. It exists at the meeting point of hip hop and pop, with lyricism that still showcases a strong grasp on the art of rap. This is present right from the opening refrain.

Musandibate ndafunga kusengejira
Pamwe pacho ndoda kumuka ndiri ndega
Rega ndivate padivi nemusombodia
Hapana paichamuka iri Jager
Mangwana kuchayedza
Asi mama ini ndayedza
Kumabasa vaiti vachandishedza
Havangafonere dzavasina kusaver

Produced by Nasper Incoming, the track has a Warped baseline that almost feels dancehall-sequence but is very much in the realm of hip hop. It wades into themes of mental health, unemployment, friendship and escapism, with an underlying message of hope. It shines with great songwriting and showcases Sane's vocal ability, which we've already seen glimpses of on "Lena."

"Mazvokuda" was released with a video directed by Tayvisuals, and although subdued compared to Sane's usual offerings, it has emotive storytelling that mirrors the song.

The track solidifies Sane as one of the leading voices in the emerging generation of Zim hip hop artists.

"Mazvokuda" is now streaming on YouTube.
