Shaku Chanté, DJ Mystic, Pretty Gangsta, Pia, and Mimi, lead an all women lineup that will be bringing a brand new Afro house experience to Harare.
Shenergy, an event celebrating the women that have been making Zimbabwe dance will be making its debut at Imba Matombo this coming weekend, and it has simple back story that is easy to get behind.
There has been a steady rise of femme/female DJs in Harare and this has continued to grow beyond what it was 5-10 years ago. Shenergy arrives with the goal of shining a light on names known and unknown in the female DJ space.
While giving women a platform that celebrates them, the event is open to all. It is the brainchild of Tose, an initiative born out of the Afro house platform AfroBeyond.
"Tose is an initiative birthed out of AfroBeyond and the people that believe in it. As house movements grow, it’s highly likely for movements to forget or deviate from the essence of the cause. To us opportunity, authenticity, meaning and expression are an essential foundation for Tose’s existence for both artist and fans." - Solomon Mash, Tose co-founder
Shenergy will have a strict no VIP stance, and its key aims are the discovery of new artists, new sounds, new attendees and making a contribution to the evolving identity of house music in Zimbabwe.
"Locally we want to expand our reach to people who have never experienced the sound or aren’t sure but inquisitive, whilst consistently delivering experiences for our existing house lover base, much like how AfroBeyond started in 2023." - Solomon Mash, Tose co-founder
Shenergy will making its debut at Imba Matombo on Saturday 20 June, from 4 pm to 11 pm. Tickets are now on sale via Ticket Pulse.
"In closing all our efforts are centered towards owning the name Zimbabwean house, whatever that looks like, whether it be this generation or the next generation, all we know is we need it for every mwana wevhu." - Solomon Mash, Tose co-founder
Harare's house music scene has experienced a recent growth that has seen it surpass a ceiling it had just a few years ago. Shenergy arrives just in time to join in house music's latest wave in the city (and country( and help shape the future of the sound and how it is experienced.
