The musical stars have aligned for Vera & The Husbands as the jazz ensemble are finally set to launch their long awaited debut album. This is a project 10 years in the making and it has been molded by the group's live performances.
The self titled album arrives on the 4th of June and it will be accompanied by a launch at Alliance Française in Harare.
"I guess in a very super hippie like fashion the stars have aligned. Its been over 10 years of writing music, and rewriting it. Having the band restructure it for concerts and festivals until we finally got to a sound we are all happy with," shared Vera.
Much like the group, Vera & The Husbands the album is set to be a work of collaboration. As the band describes it, each song has a bit of each of them in it. From the guitar riffs to the baselines, to the structure, to the groove, right down to the chord progression, the project is driven by the personal.
"In a way we wanted to keep it purely us because its been a special journey for the group to work on old and new songs and turn them into this lovely end product. People can expect stories that they can relate with. They can expect a wide variety of emotions, because we touched on love, the good and the bad, mental health and just life in general," reflected Vera on the project.
After 10 years together the band has become as good as a family, with each member being part of the same machine. How the group relates to each other off stage has become as important as the on stage performance this feeds into the group's overall craft.
"As a band we amplify each other's strengths and learn from each other's weaknesses," stated Vera.
"Elisha is great at composing and structuring the songs, Igeal and Max are great at keeping us consistent while still trying out new things, and Thulani challenges me a lot with my guitar playing aspirations. Each piece of the band makes the music better, enjoyable and solid. It's a beautiful thing!"
Vera & The Husbands album launch kicks off at 6 pm at Alliance Française on the 4th of June, and tickets are currently on sale for $10 at the venue.
