Listen to “Bossin” by Australia-based Zimbabwean RnB musician KYE - a track cosigned by Complex as best new music

The singer/songwriter was born Kylie Tadiwa Chirunga in Zimbabwe and grew up in London

KYE blends dreamy, relationship-focused pop music with R&B and sprinkles of techno, having created a solid collaborative basis in Australia's burgeoning music industry. The singer/songwriter born Kylie Tadiwa Chirunga in Zimbabwe grew up in London, England before embarking on a musical career after engaging with musicians in Melbourne's arts community.

Her father studied nursing and set himself up in London for a year before the family joined him from Zimbabwe. Chirunga started girl groups with kids in the UK and was singing in public from the age of eight. After a decade it was decided they’d set off for Australia. “My parents always wanted a better life for us. They wanted to escape the grey,” she told NME.

She began her musical career alongside musicians such as Billy Davis and Slum Sociable before releasing her first solo song, 2020's funky "Good Company." The R&B-tinged "Sometimes" and the Sampa the Great/18YOMAN-assisted "Gold" was released last year.

Now KYE's latest track, a garage-infused R&B song, titled "Bossin," is a vibrant offering with so much potential to push the artist to the next level, as it has already been picked by Complex for their compilation for Best New Australian Music From August 2022.

On the track, KYE also pays respect to her Zimbabwean ancestry and the Shona language, with lyrics like “Mumma speaking in Shona.” "Bossin" is the perfect follow-up to her 2021 EP "Good Company," and KYE's soothing voice and enticing chorus help to set her apart from the crowd.
