Sha Sha’s debut album I'm Alive among Billboard’s 25 Best Dance Albums for 2022 alongside projects from Drake and Beyonce

Beyonce and Drake, arguably two of the world's biggest pop artists, released dance-focused albums within weeks of each other in 2022, leading music fans and critics alike to pay more attention to the genre than ever before.

Now Billboard has rounded up and published a compilation of the best dance albums released during 2022, including the driving force behind Amapiano’s global reach, Sha Sha's debut album titled I'm Alive among the top 25.

Sha Sha born Charmaine Shamiso Mapimbiro infuses Amapiano with Soul, Pop and Afrobeats influences on I'm Alive as she takes a therapeutic journey of finding herself, delineating what’s most important to her, and letting go of those things that aren’t.

A similarly diverse group of artists form the feature list on the project, with assistance from the likes of Rowlene (“Give Me Something”) Ami Faku (“Themba Lami”) and Blxckie (“Take Me There”), while Sha Sha channels Sade, one of her biggest influences, on “Trying”.

Even those unfamiliar with the South African house subgenre Amapiano will be allured by the first beat of I’m Alive, Zimbabwean vocalist Sha Sha’s debut album. However, it’s track four that seals the deal: On “Fast Car,” Sha Sha sings of the exhilaration that comes from first lust and high speeds over a lush, impossibly layered composition. Signature records like these can propel an artist’s career. From the artist known as the Queen of Amapiano, it could empower an entire genre. - Billboard.com
