After what seems to be a bumpy start to the year, there is finally some good news for the Zimbabwe Dancehall chanter Winky D, whose latest album Eureka Eureka clinched a Jamaican International Reggae and World Music award nomination for Best African Entertainer alongside Stonebwoy (Ghana), Patoranking (Nigeria), Shata Wale (Ghana) and Star Zee (Sierra Leone).
"...This nomination genuinely moves my spirit. It builds shared understandings that pull our lives together in music, and also inspires me to strengthen the trust I have in the simple commonsensical hope that my music speaks." says Winky D about the nomination, announced March 9th in a press conference broadcast on Facebook and YouTube.

The 40th International Reggae & World Music Awards ceremony will be held on May 7th, 2023 in Kingston, Jamaica. Originally scheduled for May 1, 2022, the awards ceremony was postponed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The International Reggae and World Music Awards, IRAWMA ceremony was established in 1982 to acknowledge and honour the accomplishments and contributions of reggae and world music artists, including songwriters, performers, promoters and musicians.
Winky D released his latest album Eureka Eureka on the 1st of January 2023. Still, the project was not eligible for the local recently held 21st National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) because it was released after the cut-off date.
Winky D made the news last week after the police cut short his performance in Chitungwiza after the artist started performing Eureka Eureka's lead single Ibotso.
