Chido Muchemwa shortlisted for the 2025 Trillium Book Award

Canada based Zimbabwean writer, Dr. Chido Muchemwa, has been shortlisted for this year's Trillium Book Award. 


The writer is a finalist in the English category for her debut novel 'Who Will Bury You? & Other Stories,' a collection of intimate stories about Zimbabweans in moments of transition.

The Trillium Book Award is an annual literary award presented to writers in Ontario, Canada. Now in it's 38th year, the award has a CA$20,000 prize for the winning author. This year's winners will be announced during an award ceremony on June 18, 2025.

Dr. Chido Muchemwa is a recipient of the Morland African Writing Scholarship, whose work has previously appeared in several literary reviews and journals, and she has been shortlisted twice for the Short Story Day Africa Prize and placed second in the Humber Literary Review’s 2020 Emerging Writers Fiction Contest. 


She has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Wyoming, and in 2023 she graduated with a PhD in Information from the Faculty of Information and the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. 


Muchemwa's debut collection 'Who Will Bury You? & Other Stories' was named a Boston Globe Best Book of 2024 and featured on Brittle Paper's 100 Notable African Books of 2024.
