Nutty O has kicked off the journey to his long awaited sophomore album, Different Root, with the lead single "Mercy." A collaboration that brings together embattled Zim hip hop artist Holy Ten and the enigmatic Glory Sound.
Centred on making it out of tough times, the struggle anthem revels in the grace of God. This is encapsulated by the song's bridge, were Nutty O sings, "Pandakabuda ndiJah Jah, ndakabuda neprayer, ndakabuda pakaipa, pandaisadeserver, ndakabuda neMercy..."
The single has elements of both dancehall and Afro pop, with a soulful nature befitting of its message.
Holy Ten's verse seems to make indirect references to his current legal battles and tests of character not so public. This is in lines such as "Another day, another yohwe," "Hondo huru but pressure makes ngoda," and "It's looking like zvonetsa, but it's looking like my defining moment."
Nutty O, Holy Ten and The Glory Sound display a sonic chemistry that sees each artist's unique approach to music being just a right fit for the collaboration. It's easy to see why the track racked up 100,000+ views on YouTube in less than 24 hours after its release.
"Mercy" is powerful in its message, melodic in rhythm and well composed. It raises the expectations for Different Root, which is set for release on 28 August. This will be Nutty O's first album in 4 years, and it is set to have an album launch in the UK.
