Harare - Zimbabwe's longest-running festival of urban culture, Shoko Festival, is thrilled to announce its much anticipated Shoko Comedy Night for its landmark 15th Edition, set to take place at Harare Gardens on Thursday, September 25th, 2025.
This year’s Shoko Comedy Night promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Zimbabwean humor and comedic talent, with internationally acclaimed comedian King Kandoro headlining the event.
Kandoro has grown into one of Zimbabwe's most celebrated comedic talents. He is the first Zimbabwean comedian to headline and sell out Reps Theatre in 2019, a feat that he surpassed in 2021 when he sold out 7 Arts Theatre with his Prodigal Son Tour.
In December 2024, he pulled off the most daring act by a Zimbabwean comedian, selling out the 3,500-seater Celebration Centre, adding 400 more seats to accommodate the demand for the show.
Adding international flair to the line up is Kenya’s Justine Wanda, the Nairobi-based satirist and creator of “Fake Woke With Justine”, a satirical show that combines humour and critical discourse.
Wanda's sharp social commentary combines observational satire with dark humour, while tackling pressing social issues. With an impressive touring history across Africa, including performances in South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Uganda, Justine brings a continental perspective to Shoko's Comedy Night.
Munyaradzi Mike Chipere, popularly known as Mike, brings his unique blend of sharp wit and relatable storytelling to the Shoko stage with a distinctive style that seamlessly blends Shona, English, and street lingo.
Well-known Zimbabwean comedienne Munya, the multifaceted Zimbabwean performance artist and creative force, brings her mischievous observations and biting satire to the festival. Munya has performed in Eswatini, Kenya, Malaysia, and Vietnam. She has writing credits for The Week on Magamba TV and the previous Shoko Festival Comedy Roasts.
Bulawayo Arts Award (BAA) for Outstanding Comedian (2023) and NAMA nominee for Outstanding Comedian (2025), Mbongeni Ignatius Ndlovu is set to bring his rib-cracking theatrical style to Shoko Comedy Night, comedy lovers are in for a treat.
Award-winning DJ and entertainment personality, DJ Iroq, will be joining the lineup to make the night extra special, entertaining comedy lovers between performances.
“Our Comedy Night line up is a reflection of the legacy we have been building over 15 years as Shoko Festival,” shared Festival Director, Samm Farai Monro aka Comrade Fatso.
"King Kandoro is an example of that legacy as he grew his comedy career through platforms created by Magamba TV and Shoko and is now one of Zimbabwe's biggest comedians. He returns triumphantly to Shoko as a headliner and this shows our commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists in Zimbabwe who speak truth to power. Kandoro will be joined on stage by an amazing group of comedians. It’s gonna be a hilarious night!"
This year’s Shoko Comedy Night highlights Shoko’s continued commitment to providing platforms for diverse voices and fostering creative collaboration, drawing inspiration from the festival’s legacy as Zimbabwe’s premier showcase for urban culture and alternative art.
